Palo Verde Riverboat Tour

Your day will get started with a Falcon Tours  guide picking you up at your accommodation or hotel in Guanacaste and starting the journey towards Palo Verde National Park. The length of this drive varies of course based upon where you are staying but from most of the beach towns we service, it will be around 1 hour drive. During your drive you will be shown a lot of the countryside of Costa Rica, and your guide will educate you on a wide range of things you may see while driving. Palo Verde National Park was declared a Wildlife Refuge during the 1970s because of over 60 different species of birds used the Laguna, or wetland, as a migratory stop. There were once 35,000 black bellied whistling ducks, 25,000 blue winged teal, and several hundred migrating ducks during the dry season. Later the park was declared a national park and operated under the government agency called MINAE, Ministry of the Energy and Environment. In the 1990s, the park was put on the RAMSAR list of wetlands of International Importance and also on the Montreux Record.

During your two hour boat tour of Palo Verde National PArk you will see some of the most beautiful wildlife Costa Rica has to offer including over 300 species of birds, a large variety of mammals, reptiles, insects, and plant life. Some of the favorites that you may encounter include white face monkeys, crocodiles, green iguanas, bats, tiger herons, basilisk lizards (jesus christ lizards), howler monkeys, and more.

After your boat tour you will be treated to a typical Costa Rican lunch at one of our favorite local restaurants!

Following this you have the opportunity to stop in at souvenir shops where you can purchase local, hand made crafts and art.

Description

Monteverde is an entirely new side of Costa Rica for you to see if you have only visited the beach towns of Guanacaste. During this 3.5 hour drive from the beach towns such as Hermosa and Playas del Coco, you will pass through many authentic Costa Rican villages and also a few different micro-climates. Upon arriving in Monteverde you will notice a considerable drop in temperature in comparison to the Pacific Coast.

Monteverde is home to coffee plantations, monkeys, mist and friendly locals. The town, which is called Santa Elena is very small and quaint, but filled with tasty restaurants and folksy artisan shops. The rainforests of Monteverde themselves host an impressive amount of biodiversity.

Due to the altitude of Monteverde, (4662 feet above sea level) Monteverde has a steady supply of clouds and moisture which often comes in the form of fog. This fog often collects on the higher branches leaves and drips down to the organisms below. There are over 100 species of mammals, 400 species of birds, and tens of thousands of insects and over 2500 varieties of plants.

Your tour with Falcon Tours will include a hike on hanging bridges which will take you through the heart of Monteverde’s cloud forest. There are 8 different hanging bridges which will take you through different levels of the forest and give you a great chance to see many animals in their natural habitat.

Your tour will also include stops at a beautiful spot called “The garden of hummingbirds” which includes a chance to see the endemic Esmeralda Head of Copper hummingbirds. You will also get a chance to visit the garden of butterflies and also to see many different species of snake.

You will also be treated to a Costa Rican style lunch on your tour with Falcon Tours.
